August 12, 2004: Press Release :
Press release regarding the first experimentation of the highly interconnectable and compatible IC Tags in Japan.
Auto-ID Labs Japan (Representative: Keio University, Professor Jun Murai) and NTT Communications Corporation (President: Masanobu Suzuki), Headquarters: Chiyoda-Ku Tokyo, Abbrev Name: Ntt Com will commence experimentation of the electronic (IC) tags based on the Auto-ID network technological specifications (Architecture) network in August.
July 26, 2004 - Hosted The First EPC RFID FORUM
Auto-ID LAB JAPAN, the Electronic Commerce Promotion Council of Japan (ECOM), and EPCglobal Japan (The Distributed System Research Institute) established the "EPC RFID FORUM" which concentrates on technologies, business models and other various aspects aiming to increase the general public's knowledge of and promote the use and introduction of systems utilizing RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technologies effectively into the Japanese and global economic society and co-hosted "The First EPC RFID FORUM".

NetWorld+Interop 2004 Tokyo becomes the first and largest scale experimentation field for Auto-ID in the world !!
In cooperation with MediaLive Japan, Inc. (President Hiroyuki Sugano), Auto-ID LAB JAPAN (Director: Prof. Jun Murai Keio University Faculty of Environmental Information) went on to conduct experimentation for Auto-ID using conventional barcode systems at "NetWorld+Interop 2004 Tokyo", Asia's largest network event boasting over 150 thousand participants.
March 2-5, 2004 - Participated and cooperated in the exhibition and planning of RETAILTECH JAPAN 2004
Participated in "RETAILTECH JAPAN 2004" (The 20th Distributed Information Systems General Exhibition. Event Date: March 2-5, 2004. Hosted by: Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc.). Cooperated in the planning of the 20th anniversary event "STORE IMAGINATION 2009".
February 16, 2004 - Participated in and provided the infrastructure for the IPv6 Business Summit
Auto-ID LABS JAPAN Participated in the IPv6 business summit (Hosted by: Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc., the Internet Association Japan and the IPv6 Promotion Council. Venue: Keio Plaza Hotel) and at the same time constructed and provided the "Event support system created by Auto-ID" together with Power Play Inc. The "Event support system created by Auto-ID" was constructed on EPC Network/Infrastructure and was utilized by approximately 4000 participants at the event.
January 6, 2004 - Held the Auto-ID LABS Research Meeting
Approximately 150 specialists were gathered from throughout Japan to partake in a research meeting hosted by Auto-ID LABS at Keio University (Minato-Ku, Tokyo). Participants were divided into four groups and took part in discussions on hardware, software, experimentation, policies and business models.

Participated in the SFC Open Research Forum 2003 (Sponsors: Keio University SFC Research Institute. Venue: Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 24F).
October 28-30, 2003 - Held the Auto-ID 11th Board Meeting in which the decision was delivered for the reorganization of the Auto-ID Center
The Auto-ID Center held its last board meeting as the "Auto-ID Center" on the 24th floor of Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower. Approximately 160 Auto-ID Center members gathered and partook in discussions and exhibitions relating to such areas as the User Committee, Technology Committee, Hardware Action Group, and Technical Sessions. Heizo Takenaka, Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy delivered a keynote speech at a dinner party following the meeting. The Auto-ID Center was reorganized to form Auto-ID LABS made up of EPCglobal, a non-profit organization aiming at the standardization of the EPC Network™ and participating universities.
October 27, 2003 - Hosted the Auto-ID Seminar
Preceding the Auto-ID board meeting the Auto-ID Center hosted a seminar entitled "Outline and present situation of introducing a global standard ID system". Jun Murai (Professor of Keio University, Director of the Auto-ID Center Research Center in Japan), Kevin Ashton (Executive Director of the Auto-ID Center) and Sanjay Sarma (Professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Research Director of the Auto-ID Center) were invited to deliver lectures at the seminar.
April 1, 2003 - Established Auto-ID Center Research Center in Japan
The Auto-ID Center Research Center in Japan was established at Keio University SFC Research Institute. The research center in Japan was established following the existing research bases at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.A), Cambridge University (England) and the University of Adelaide (Australia). At the same time research centers were established at Fudan University (China) and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). The research center in Japan is involved in various activities including experimentation carried out within Japan and recommendations for the use of wave frequencies while also focusing on the field of networking and architecture.
