EPC (Electronic Product Code) Network

EPCglobal is involved in encoding inherent ID onto EPC tags (wireless tags) that are attached to various products available in the market today and the research, standardization and operation of services utilizing this ID on a global scale. The EPC Network™ is an innovative service architecture for EPC systems that has been created incorporating RFID (wireless tag) and network technologies.

The EPC Network, currently in the process of standardization through EPCglobal has been constructed incorporating RFID tags and reader technologies to store EPCs, SAVANT: read information and a software package that mediates between applications, TDS: the construction of ID space to be stored on the EPC, PML: standard format for describing information regarding products carrying an EPC, EPCIS(Electronic Product Code Information System): network service that manages all EPC related services (searching for and recording of information) and the, ONS (Object Name System): a service that traces the location of the EPCIS on the network. Various product information relating to products that carry an EPC, from the time it is manufactured, while it is passing through distribution channels up until the time the product is sold and if the user wishes even following the sale of the product can be stock piled or used through the EPC network.
